So here’s what happened the other day. I logged in to my Amazon account to buy a new pair of shoes and BAM! The homepage opened in a completely different language — Spanish. It left me wondering to myself, “Everything was in English the last time I was on, so why is my Amazon in Spanish all of a sudden?”

If you notice Amazon frequently changing to Spanish or other languages on your smartphone or PC, here are some reasons why that could be happening. We’ll also be exploring some ways to fix this problem.

Why Is My Amazon in Spanish?

Are you curious why your Amazon frequently changes to Spanish? Unravel the mystery behind this language switch and learn how tweaking your settings can keep your digital shopping experience in sync with your preferred language.

Mentioned below are key reasons behind the unexpected switch:

Reason 1: One possible reason for the sudden change could be because the Amazon website switches the language if you click on a foreign link. For example, if you search for an item on Google that leads to Amazon.de, the product page will open in Deutsch.

Reason 2: Logging into Amazon from a different smartphone in a new country can prompt the platform to automatically switch to the language corresponding to your current location.

Here’s how you can change the country location and language:

1. On a Google search results page, click Settings (or the Settings icon) at the bottom right.

2. Select Search Settings.

Google Search Settings

3. Click Other Settings on the sidebar panel and choose Language and region.

Google Language and Region Settings

4. Choose your preferred language and current region from the available options.

Select Region from Results Region

For Microsoft Bing users, click the hamburger menu icon, go to Settings and then Country/Region. Select your preferred country. If you select the United States, choose United States – English and not United States – Spanish.

How To Change Amazon’s Default Language?

Amazon’s official language is English, but they relegate a pre-chosen language depending on users’ device locations along with account and browser settings. However, customers have the freedom to pick their preferred language.

If other browsers display Amazon in your preferred language, check the language and region settings for the browser displaying a different language. If Amazon is in Spanish across all of your browsers and devices, the issue is most likely with your account settings.

Here are a few possible explanations and solutions:

Amazon’s Website

Step 1: Open Amazon’s website on your preferred browser and locate the Flag icon next to Account & Lists at the top.

Step 2: Press the Flag icon and choose your preferred language from the dropdown list.

Step 1: Open Amazon’s website on your preferred browser, scroll down and press the globe icon at the bottom of the homepage.

Step 2: Choose your preferred language and tap Save Changes.

Choose Preferred Language from the List in Language Settings

Upon making these changes, Amazon will email you to confirm the language preference update.

Amazon’s Mobile App (Android and iOS)

Step 1: Open the Amazon mobile app and press the hamburger icon at the bottom right of the homepage.

Step 2: Go to Settings and choose Country & Language.

Step 3: Press Country/Region and select your language preference from the list.

Upon selecting, Amazon will send you a confirmation email about the language preference update.

Exploring Amazon in a Different Language

Are you facing hurdles in switching your Amazon language back to English or any other option? Whether you’re abroad and struggling with Amazon’s default language or just finding it hard to navigate, explore these alternative methods for seamlessly adjusting your account’s language settings.

Google Translate

Use Google Translate to convert Amazon pages into your preferred language. Copy and paste the text you want to translate and choose your desired language for seamless interpretation.

VPN Settings

Many websites use the visitor’s geographic IP address to determine the default page language. If your virtual private network (VPN) server location on your smartphone or PC is set to Spain or any other Spanish-speaking countries, Amazon will most likely display products in Spanish.

Refresh the page after checking your VPN settings and switching to a non-Spanish country/server.

Factors To Consider Before Changing Language on Amazon

Before altering your language settings on Amazon, it’s crucial to weigh various factors that can influence your app experience.

Let’s delve into the key factors to keep in mind before initiating any language changes on Amazon:

Familiarize Yourself With Navigation

If you’re switching to a new language on Amazon, take some time to acquaint yourself with navigation nuances. Familiarize yourself with the layout and terminology to ensure a seamless transition, minimizing any potential confusion or frustration.

Consider Limitations in Language-Specific Features

It’s essential to be aware that certain language settings may come with limitations or reduced accessibility to specific features on Amazon. Understanding these potential constraints enables you to make an informed decision based on your preferences and requirements.

Some common limitations include:

  • Search Functionality: Some languages on Amazon may offer limited support in search functionality, limiting your ability to easily find products or information.
  • Customer Support: Opting for a less common language on Amazon may lead to limited support availability due to fewer speakers, thereby restricting team assistance.
  • Application Updates: New functionalities and updates usually release in English or other widely spoken languages first, causing a delay in availability for users with language-specific settings.
  • Speech-To-Text Feature: Languages other than English may experience lower accuracy rates in the speech-to-text feature, limiting the effectiveness of dictation or speech input.

Account for Automatic Language Detection

Keep in mind that Amazon employs automatic language detection based on your location. This detection may not always align with your preferred language setting.

Anticipating this automatic adjustment will help you navigate potential discrepancies between your intended language preference and the platform’s automatic detection based on your geographical location. Stay in control of your language choices on Amazon by being mindful of this automatic feature.

Yes, you can use a single Amazon account across different countries, but it requires switching between Amazon stores for each specific location. When you switch stores, currency, products, billing methods and shipping options update depending on your region.

Different countries may have distinct policies on customs, taxes, product availability and shipping times, so review store-specific guidelines before placing your orders. While a single Amazon account works for multiple countries, be mindful of switching between stores and potential product differences.

Follow these steps to change your Chrome browser’s language preferences:

  • Step 2: Select Language from the sidebar panel.
  • Step 3: Add, remove or update your preferred languages.

Amazon. Why, if you know so much about me, do you think all of a sudden I know Spanish? Why would somebody using the same account want their Amazon account to suddenly be in Spanish? Just because somebody is in a different country doesn’t mean suddenly they know that language or even if they did, would want to change their online experience to that language. Sure, set default language to country of location initially, but once someone has been using their account in English for 20+ years? Ridiculous. Such sophisticated programming but can’t get something basic right.

Thanks for sharing this informative guide! I recently moved to a new country and I’m not sure how my Amazon settings got set to Spanish. It’s really helpful to know that there are steps I can take to change it back to English. I’ll definitely give it a try after work today.

Why is my Amazon page in Spanish on my Safari browser? I have never had this issue before. I need to order something that is critical. I may not need Amazon if they can’t understand that this is the USA and It is a predominately English speaking country.

So confusing to change to English. Amazon is a multi million dollar company. Fix it. This is the United States. ENGLISH please.

It is sickening to try to get into your account and everything is in Spanish. What is the purpose of that? I pay enough for my premium and I should get my service, too.

Amazon. You have to do better. We pay good annual premiums to use your service. Please fix this problem. I can’t understand any or my orders. And yes, I’ve tried all the steps listed. It keeps reverting back to Spanish.

Directions above are for if your account is in English. If your account is suddenly in Spanish, it doesn’t have the English words. It would be very helpful to show how to find the correct settings in Spanish…

There’s another very common reason this happens, that I’m surprised the article didn’t mention: Some Amazon links have language codes embedded, and sometimes authors or websites offer links with these kinds of URLs by mistake. For example, clicking the following link (found on a bookfunnel promo page) will take you to “Hatred” by M. J. Dees, but will also force Amazon.com into Portuguese:

    https://www.amazon.com/-/pt/gp/product/B0929DDPK1

  • Moses Atencio - January 20, 2023 reply

nothing I did changed the language, I have to hit translate every freaking time…even if I scroll to the next page it’s in Spanish ! My order receipt came in Spanish…I can’t read it, I can’t call Amazon, or find their #. I can’t email Amazon, or I can’t find their email. I’m old, disabled, and I can’t keep up with technology… I don’t even want to use them anymore. I don’t know what to do???? I have a Galexy note 9 , I’m with with verizon.
thanks for trying to help, if you have advice please let me know.

I’ve tried it all, but it’s not working. I don’t speak Spanish h and whenever I try to enquire about the how to have EVERYTHING on the Amazon site written in English, I get Spanish instructions, which I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Evem when I change my language preferences, this keeps happening. Frustrating! I can no longer shio on Amazon because I don’t know what it is saying.

  • Celia - November 14, 2022 reply

So the word “Settings’ does not appear anywhere when your Amazon has turned itself into Spanish. I finally clicked on “Configuracion”, then tried “Idioma y pais” before I could find the option of “Ingles”. Your answer only helps an English speaking person with a screen that is already in English.

This site describes that with the app, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the globe icon. I don’t see a glove icon.

From the results of a Google search, this behavior has many people confused.

In my case, the app changes to Spanish frequently. So far as I know, I have rarely visited a Spanish language vendor and then by accident. So, why cannot I get back to English by visiting a US vendor.

  • Ryan Morrison - November 7, 2022 reply

I have done everything recommended it still attempts to translate from Spanish to English. Why Spanish first?

  • Chris Jones - October 31, 2022 reply

I have returned my account to English multiple times and it keeps going back to Spanish. It has been happening for days. I’m going to completely quit Amazon if this continues

  • Dorothy perricone - October 25, 2022 reply

I don’t know why it keeps going to Spanish it’s annoying and difficult to change and it’s very lengthy to read the instructions it should be one two three

No good! The hamburger menu first offer an opportunity to change language in the Android Amazon app. Try again….

  • David T Radzimoski - July 27, 2022 reply

These solutions do not work and will not on samsung note 20 ultra, somehow these changes integrated into Android software, you can’t change settings unless you read Spanish settings controls. If you do manage it, they immediately default back to Spanish the next time you you go to Amazon.Theres a correlation to defaulting to Spanish between Google and Amazon. Amazon definitely made Spanish it’s official language no matter what excuses they make.

This something new Amazon started this yr.Never happened before at least not on an android device. Why now? I’ve changed no location or preferences. This is either Amazon or googles doing since that’s the browser. Inspite of what they say Amazon is trying or did make Spanish it’s official language through Google on Android.

  • David T Radzimoski - May 24, 2022 reply

I’ve been using Amazon for well over 15 years now and I’ve clicked on to product links before and it never switched to Spanish till now in 2022, Why? POLITICS?

  • David T Radzimoski - May 13, 2022 reply

Region and zip code is correct, amazon keeps defaulting to Spanish, no matter what I do. Why?

  • Virginia Conwell - May 7, 2022 reply

This would be great if I could read it and find the settings. I have no idea which one says settings.

  • Rick Restivo - March 4, 2022 reply

These instructions must be outdated: in my app there’s no globe icon and there’s no hamburger Icon anywhere.
Also, this tutorial needs more pictures. How are you supposed to choose options or click on anything if the page you’re working on is in a language you don’t understand?
