Transformation Roadmap

Transformation Roadmap

Business processes define how work gets done in every organization, regardless of size, shape or type. Understanding and evolving key business processes is essential to any successful ERP initiative. Improving productivity is about improving business processes, therefore, a detailed business process analysis and transformation roadmap is a key part of any ERP implementation. The first step in a business process transformation project is the analysis of existing processes through current state mapping to identify areas of redundancy and inefficiency.

Strategic process areas are identified and the most knowledgeable stakeholders are interviewed. Optionally, key user “shadowing” may be needed to really understand their existing processes. The output of the interview and shadowing is used for the development of the business process mapping, which shows the flow of information and the interaction of the users in other departments.

The following are the key components to the business process transformation:

  • Key performance metrics
  • Redundant processes, data and data entry, aka “waste”
  • Value of the process
  • Problems with the process
  • Areas for improvement

As part of the business process transformation, the following key components are analyzed:

  • Business operations
  • Business processes
  • Software systems
  • Master data and information flow
  • IT strategy and infrastructure

Prioritization is done on all the possible improvement opportunities based on cost, timing, change difficulty and benefits. A customized transformation roadmap is the outcome of the process flow depicted below.
